This week, Rebecca met with Leukaemia UK in Parliament to hear about the avoidable delays that too many people experience before receiving a diagnosis.

The event was held to discuss the findings of their report, End the Delays in Leukaemia Diagnosis. Their evidence shows that many people diagnosed in emergency settings had earlier missed opportunities, when leukaemia could have been identified.

Every year, around 10,000 people in England are told they have leukaemia. Leukaemia is not one disease. There are multiple types, each of which differently affects how the body makes blood cells and how rapidly the disease develops.

Early diagnosis is one of the most powerful determinants of cancer outcomes and Leukaemia UK are calling for earlier and better diagnoses for people affected by leukaemia.
